Part Description
LP18831-5 Epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus
Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease virus (EHDV) causes an arthropod-bourne illness primarily of white-tailed deer, mule deer and pronghorn antelope (although other species can be affected). It belongs to the genus Orbivirus, family Reoviridae with seven serotypes currently recognized. EHDV is transmitted by Cullicoides midges (tiny biting flies), and causes anorexia, weakness, fever, and edema. It can be fatal within 8-36 hours in naive animals. Although it primarily circulates in the southern United States, the periodic movement of infected vector insects to the northern United States in recent years has resulted in severe outbreaks in northern states (such as NY in 2011). EHDV virus has also been reported in South America, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Caribbean. The EHD virus is sometimes confused with the related Bluetongue virus and crossreacts with it on many blood tests[https://cwhl.vet.cornell.edu/disease/epizootic-hemorrhagic-disease].

- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; Updated Answer list type from NORMATIVE to EXAMPLE because the Answers in the list (Positive, Negative) are only examples of possible answers and not an exclusive list
