Part Descriptions
LP15622-1 Glycolate
Glycolic acid (GA) is a metabolite of ethylene glycol (EG) and is responsible for the primary effects of EG poisoning, which include central nervous system depression, acute renal failure, and elevated anion gap metabolic acidosis. In cases of suspected EG poisoning, EG screening should be accompanied by a confirmatory method or simultaneous measurement of GA.The preferred methods for confirming EG and GA are chromatographic. Screening can be performed in serum or urine, and serum levels of both substances should be monitored during treatment in confirmed poisoning cases. The serum GA level provides more accurate diagnostic and prognostic information than does the EG level. PMID: 11897969

LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.
