Rickettsia conorii is one of the etiologic agents of spotted fever rickettsiosis, which encompasses a wide variety of conditions, from mild to severe. R. conorii causes Mediterranean spotted fever, also known as boutonneuse fever, which is found in Europe, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, and Africa.
