Complement C3 Ag [Presence] in Tissue by Immunofluorescence
Active
Part Description
LP16359-9 Complement C3
The complement system is a key part of the immune system and inflammatory response. The system has three pathways: 1) the classic pathway, 2) the alternative pathway, and 3) the lectin activation pathway. Complement C3 is involved in the activation of both the classical and alternate complement pathways. It is the most concentrated of the complement members and is composed of 5 subunits: C3a, C3b, C3c, C3d and C3 d. Decreased levels of C3 is associated with disease inactivation in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and may also be associated with acute glomerulonephritis, immune complex disease, septic shock, and end-stage liver disease. PMID: 6433145 PMID: 3295544 Complement tests measure either the quantity or the activity (function) of complement proteins. In some cases, complement proteins are present but not functional, in which case a functional assay is used to detect the deficiency.
