Staphylococcus aureus exfoliative toxin B etb gene [Presence] in Specimen by NAA with probe detection
Active
Part Description
LP149680-3 Staphylococcus aureus exfoliative toxin B etb gene
Exfoliative (EF) toxins are implicated in the disease staphylococcal scalded-skin syndrome (SSSS), which occurs most commonly in infants and young children. It also may occur as epidemics in hospital nurseries. The protease activity of the exfoliative toxins causes peeling of the skin observed with SSSS.
Two biologically and serologically distinct Staphylococcus aureus exotoxins are responsible for SSSS in humans - exfoliative toxin A (eta) and exfoliative toxin B (etb).

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; Removed parentheses around the gene name in Component based on the current LOINC model.
