Part Descriptions
LP16202-1 Methylphenidate
Methylphenidate (brand name Ritalin) is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is also used to treat depression, narcolepsy, brain injury, cancer, pain, cognitive disorders and to treat patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Methylphenidate can be admistered orally, intravenously or intranasally. This medication can be habit forming and has potential for abuse. Intranasal abuse can mimic the effects cocaine in both onset and type as it provides a rapid release of synaptic dopamine that causes an instant feeling of euphoria. Side effects can include insomnia, stomach ache, headache, and anorexia. PMID: 15014637
