Term Description
Carbapenemase resistant enterobacteriacae (CRE) screening may be performed using a rectal swab plated onto a culture medium containing high concentrations of a carbapenem. Any bacterial growth will be identified and full susceptibility performed. This is for infection control purposes to know a patient needs to be on contact isolation.
