Temporal artery thermometers measures body temperature by infrared energy on the skin over an artery in the forehead (superficial temporal artery).

Temporal artery thermoetoers are used as a noninvasive method for measuring temperature and provide accuracy similar to axillary temperature measurements. Neither of these methods sufficiently replace rectal or other invasive methods. PMID: 16148817
