Brief Pain Inventory Short Form - pain interference panel
Active
Term Description
This panel represents the pain interference portion of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) Short Form. The patient is asked to describe on a scale from 0-10 how, during the past 24 hours, pain has interfered with their general activity, mood, walking ability, normal work (includes both work outside the home and housework), relations with other people, sleep, and enjoyment of life. A score of 0 indicates pain "does not interfere" and 10 means it "Completely interferes". The BPI Short Form is one of the formats for the BPI and is commonly used in clinical trials. It differs from the BPI Long Form in that it uses a 24-hour recall period versus in the past week. The BPI pain interference is typically scored as the mean of the seven interference item scores. The results are clinically useful if more than 50% (four out of seven) of the total items have been completed.(The Brief Pain Inventory Users Guide, © 2009 Charles S. Cleeland)
