Surgical margin tumor involvement.deep [Presence] in Colorectal cancer specimen by Light microscopy
Active
Part Description
LP73459-7 Surgical margin tumor involvement.deep
Biopsies of the skin are done in order to remove skin lesions and determine the specific diagnosis. Surgical margins are the boundaries of the excised specimen, and in the case of a skin biopsy, the deep margin is the one furthest away from the skin surface. A margin is considered 'positive' if it contains neoplastic cells and indicates that additional treatment may be needed besides the excision. Deeper excisions are more invasive but are associated with diminished chances for the tumor's reoccurrence. PMID: 25484385
