Carbapenem resistance blaGIM gene [Presence] by Molecular method
Active
Term Description
This test reports the presence of the GIM bacterial carbapenemase resistance type gene in gram negative bacterial isolates. This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the submitter's modified protocol for the Check-Points Check-MDR CT103XL assay.

Part Description
LP248234-9 Bacterial carbapenem resistance blaGIM gene
The Ambler classification for carbapenemases utilizes four molecular classes - A, B, C and D. The GIM enzymes identified in Pseudomonas spp. are included in class B. The clinical revelance of of the GIM enzymes is that they can act as reservoires and carriers of the causal factor of resistance. The growing prevalence of carbapenemase-producing organisms reveals the importance of optimizing the detection while minimizing the dissemination of these types of strains.
