Porcine circovirus type 2 IgG+IgM Ab [Presence] in Serum by Immunofluorescence
Active
Term Description
This assay is used to report the presence of Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) IgG and IgM antibodies based on the immunofluorescence staining pattern. The test does not differentiate IgG from IgM. Nuclear and/or cytoplasmic fluorescence interspersed throughout the well indicates a positive result for PCV2 antibodies, and lack of nuclear or cytoplasmic fluorescence or the presence of isolated cell was fluorescence indicates a negative result.

LP249707-3 Porcine circovirus type 2
Veterinary Medicine:
Porcine circoviruses (PCV) are small nonenveloped DNA viruses in the Circoviridae family that contain a single-stranded circular genome. PCV are the smallest viruses replicating autonomously in eukaryotic cells by utilizing the host polymerase for genome amplification. Two types of PCV have been characterised, PCV1 and PCV2. PCV1 is nonpathogenic in adult pigs, while PCV2 is a major pathogen. PMID: 21945213. The primary effect of PCV2 is postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS). Pigs with PMWS have weakness, difficulty breathing, enlarged lymphnodes, diarrhea, and yellowing of the skin. Lesions associated with the presence of PCV2 have been found in the lymphatic system, the lungs, liver, kidney, heart, gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. Co-infection of PCV with porcine parvovirus or porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus enhances PMWS. PMID: 10690769Infection of porcine circovirus in humans is non-productive.[cordis.europa.eu/result/rcn/33358_en.html]
