Part Description
LP249709-9 Senecavirus A
Senecavirus A (SVA), formerly Seneca Valley virus (SVV) is a small, non-enveloped picornavirus. Other members of this family are foot-and-mouth disease virus and swine vesicular disease virus. SVA is the causative agent of an emerging vesicular disease in swine (2017) and has been associated with neonatal mortality in piglets. The genomic sequences of 3 United States isolates were determined and found to be 7,266 nucleotides (nt) in length. The three isolates have similar genomic organization to previously described SVA isolates, namely, 5′ untranslated region (UTR), a single open reading frame (ORF), and 3′ UTR. The polyprotein translated from the single ORF is predicted to be cleaved into four structural proteins (VP4, VP2, VP3, and VP1) and seven nonstructural proteins (2A, 2B, 2C, 3A, 3B, 3C, and 3D). PMID: 26564033 SVA has also been idenfied in mice and houseflies which implicates them in playing a role in epidemiology of the disease. PMID: 27030489. The clinical signs of SVA include coronary, snout and/or oral mucosa band vesicles, acute lameness, anorexia, lethargy and fever. SVA is present in the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, New Zealand and Brazil. PMID: 28394893
