Veterinary Medicine:
Porcine sapelovirus (PSV) is a non-enveloped single-stranded RNA virus with a single serotype PSV-1. The only known hosts are domestic swine and wild boar. Transmission of PSV is through the fecal-oral route and no humans are known to have been infected. Infections can be asymptomatic but can also lead to neurological disorders, diarrhea, pneumonia, stillbirth, mummified fetus, embryonic death and infertility. PSV has been identified in healthy swine in Brazil, Australia, Spain, Italy and the United States. Symptomatic infection of PSV has been reported in China, South Korea and the United Kingdom. Tests that identify PSV include culture, virus neutralization and reverse transcript polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RT-PCR is used to distinguish between PSV, Porcine teschovirus (PTV) and Enterovirus G (EV-G).PSV can be inactivated with sodium chlorite and 70% ethanol. There is no treatment or vaccine for PSV.[http://www.swinehealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Porcine-sapelovirus-PSV.pdf]
