Term Description
The Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS©) predot code [LOINC: 75890-4] is used to determine the AIS severity score, a 6 point ordinal scale where 1 = minor, 2 = moderate, 3 = serious, 4 = severe, 5 = critical, and 6 = maximal (injury is currently untreatable). The AIS severity score indicates the relative risk of "threat to life" in an average person who sustains the AIS coded injury as his or her only injury.

2708-6 Initial field oxygen saturation
Part Descriptions
LP21258-6 Oxygen saturation
Oxygen saturation (sO2) is defined as the ratio of oxyhemoglobin to "active" hemoglobin (oxyhemoglobin + deoxyhemoglobin). Some say the term oxygen saturation has been erroneously redefined with a denominator of "total" instead of "active" hemoglobin, an ambiguity that can sometimes create confusion when viewing reported values from different instruments (Anesth Analg. 2007 Dec;105(6 Suppl):S5-9.) Oxygen saturation is commonly measured by blood gas analyzers and pulse oximetry.

2708-6 Initial ED/Hospital oxygen saturation

Part Descriptions
LP18046-0 Drugs
A drug is any biological substance, synthetic or non-synthetic, that is taken for non-dietary needs. It is usually synthesized outside of an organism and it must be introduced into an organism to trigger its effect. Note that natural endogenous biochemicals (such as hormones) can bind to the same receptors and produce the same effect as a drug. Thus, a drug is simply a definition that helps distinguish whether a molecule is synthesized in vivo or in vitro. For instance, insulin is a hormone when it is synthesized in vivo by the pancreas but if it is called a drug if it is introduced into the body.

LP7238-1 Body fld
The LOINC "Body fld" System represents body fluids other than serum, plasma, blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid. When a LOINC term with the System "Body fld" is used, the specific specimen source or body fluid type should be reported elsewhere with the result. Where more specific terms for pleural, peritoneal, synovial fluid, etc. exist, we encourage you to use the more specific terms. In contrast to "Body fld", the System "Asp" in LOINC represents the fluid withdrawn during an aspiration procedure from an abnormal collection of fluid, such as from an abscess or cyst. "Asp" is used for abnormal fluid collections that are aspirated, while "Body fld" is used for named body fluids, such as synovial fluid or peritoneal fluid, that are not inherently pathologic.

1298-9 Packed erythrocytes given [Volume]
Part Descriptions
LP15236-0 Packed erythrocytes
Red blood cells, or packed red blood cells, are prepared from whole blood collected in one of several approved anticoagulant solutions. The usual 250-300 ml unit of red blood cells (RBCs) has a hematocrit of 55-80%, with some platelets and/or white cells removed during processing. Red blood cells are the component of choice for patients with a symptomatic deficit of oxygen-carrying capacity. RBCs may also be used to help restore cells lost following significant hemorrhage. Removal of plasma reduces the risk of adverse reactions. New York Blood Center website, accessed 20081218.

1299-7 Platelets given [Volume]
Part Descriptions
LP14597-6 Platelets
Platelets are miniature fragments of cytoplasm that break off of megakaryocytes. Their primary function is to inhibit excessive hemorrhage after blood vessel injury. Platelets cling to the damaged part of the blood vessel where they become activated, recruit other platelets to the site, and begin the cascade of physical and chemical events that lead to clot formation. Activated platelets secrete cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors, all which play a role in thrombus development. When activated, platelets stimulate monocytes and neutrophils to leave the blood vessel and enter the tissue. PMID: 27226790 The normal range of platelets is 150,000 to 450,000 platelets/uL. Lower than normal platelet counts can lead to increased bleeding and is caused by a number of factors including: chemotherapy, autoimmune disorders and some medications. Increased platelets can cause hypercoagulation due to cancer, anemia, spleen removal and some medications.[MedlinePlus Encyclopedia:003647]
