Lupus sensitive aPTT measured after heparin neutralization, which removes the effects of any heparin that may be present in the sample. Heparin neutralization methods include the addition of heparinase, an enzyme that breaks down heparin, and heparin adsorption, in which a substance is added that binds the heparin that is present.

Sensitive aPTT has less phospholipid relative to the standard aPTT reagent, which makes the test more sensitive to the presence of phospholipid antibodies.
