Sandfly fever Sicilian virus (SFSV) was identified in Italy in 1943 and belongs to family Phenuiviridae, genus Phlebovirus [NCBI Taxonomy: 28292]. The sandfly fever Sicilian serocomplex comprises the ICTV-classified species Dashli phlebovirus, Toros phlebovirus, and Sicilian phlebovirus PMID: 32878929. Transmission occurs through sandflies and the primary vector is Phlebotomus papatasi PMID: 18439364. Sandfly fever Naples virus and Sandfly fever Sicilian virus infections share symptoms and clinical similarity. Symptoms often present as a three day fever with abrupt onset, headache, muscular pain, photophobia, and nausea PMID: 32878929.
