Kanamycin
Active
Description
Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces kanamyceticus. It binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit which cause a faulty reading of t-RNA that blocks the synthesis of proteins necessary for growth. Aminoglycosides are used to treat aerobic bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomona, Acinetobacter, Enterobacter and some mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The aminoglycosides are not effective treatments for anaerobic bacteria, fungi or viruses.[https://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB01172] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
