Description
Bone alkaline phosphatase (B-ALP) isoenzyme is produced by osteoblasts and increases in serum in association with osteoblastic activity. The bone isoenzyme is a significant isoenzyme that should be interpreted with respect to age. Increase of bone isoenzyme is associated with malignancies, such as breast cancer with bone or liver metastasis and osteosarcoma and lymphoma with or without metastasis. Increased bone isoenzyme is also associated with rheumatismal diseases, hyperparathyroidism, Paget disease and rachitism. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
