Version 2.77

Description

Stemphylium botryosum is a well-known plant pathogen found in the soil in temperate and subtropical regions and on a wide range of host plants. S. botryosum spores release allergens before germination, and the extent of human exposure is unknown. However, S. botryosum has been found to induce symptoms of asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis in sensitized humans. Soil isolates have been found from forests, grasslands, decaying vegetation, wheat plantings, beet and citrus cultivation, coffee plantations, polluted fresh water, leaf litter of trees, and bark and leaves of citrus. As a seedborne fungus, S. botryosum causes black mold rot on tomatoes (especially in Israel), wheat and barley. It also causes leaf spot on lettuce, and can be found growing on a wide range of vegetables including beans and peas.
