Phospholipase A2 receptor Ab.IgG
Active
Description
The M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) stimulates the production of phospholipase A2 receptor autoantibodies. The PLA2R antibodies are a sensitive biomarker for idiopathic membranous nephropathy (MN). Over 80% of patients with MN are positive for PLA2R antibodies. MN is a syndrome where immune complexes deposit on the basement membrane and along with complement fixation alter the filtration barrier leading to proteinuria. The target antigens reside on the podocytes and is where the disease process begins. PLA2R antibodies are useful to diagnose and monitor treatment of MN. PMCID: PMC3103733 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
