Version 2.78

Descriptions

A sweet viscous liquid food, produced in the honey sacs of various bees from nectar collected from flowers. The nectar is ripened into honey by inversion of its sucrose sugar into fructose and glucose. It is somewhat acidic and has mild antiseptic properties, being sometimes used in the treatment of burns and lacerations. Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006

A food, which may result in allergy symptoms in sensitised individuals.

Honey is produced by domesticated and many wild bees from the nectar of flowers and other plant secretions.

Honey appears to be a common self-reported allergy. However, it may be that honey only uncommonly induces symptoms of food allergy in sensitised individuals. Copyright Copyright © 2006 Phadia AB. Source: ImmunoCap, ImmunoCap
