Nitrogen dioxide
Active
Description
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a potentially toxic gas formed from nitrous oxide (NO) in the presence of oxygen (O2). For patients who are on a mechanical ventilator, the amount of NO2 produced in the ventilator circuit is directly proportional to the concentration of NO and O2 and inversely proportional to minute ventilation and total gas flow. NO2 monitors detect the amount of NO2 present in the circuit. PMID: 9142588 Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 9142588
