Description
When HIV-1 enters a cell it first is changed into an inactive HIV-1 DNA provirus. The HIV-1 provirus combines with the host cell DNA. When the host cell replicates, the HIV-1 provirus also is replicated which ensures its continued survival.[https://aidsinfo.nih.gov/understanding-hiv-aids/glossary/608/provirus] The quantitative determination of proviral HIV-1 DNA load is determined for antiretroviral treatment, particularly when HIV-1 RNA levels drop below the detectable limits during treatment.
