Active
Description
Fenchlorphos is a white to tan crystalline solid that acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor and is used as an insecticide. It is extremely toxic when inhaled or absorbed through the skin causing rapid and acute organophosphate poisoning. Symptoms of organophosphate poisoning include headache, sweating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle twitching, loss of coordination, and death. Recurrent exposure to fenchlorphos can cause mental health issues including depression, anxiety or irritability. Repeat exposure at increased levels of fenchlorphos can cause nerve damage leading to weakness and poor coordination in the arms and legs. Fenchlorphos is no longer approved to be used in the United States.[PubChem:9298][http://nj.gov/health/eoh/rtkweb/documents/fs/1637.pdf] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
