Description
Early treatment diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) charts are commonly used in clinical trials. ETDRS charts have equal logarithmic changes in size between lines and uniform spacing between letters and lines. The results are typically recorded as logMAR, which is the log 10 of the minimum angle of resolution (MAR). MAR can also stand for MAgnification Requirement. The MAR is calculated by taking the reciprocal of the Snellen fraction These charts were originally developed by Rick Ferris et al. of the National Eye Institute using the LogMAR chart layout and implemented with Sloan letters. Data from the ETDRS were used to select letter combinations that give each line the same average difficulty, without using all letters on each line. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
