Plant stanol ester intake
Active
Description
Stanols are saturated sterols (they have no double bonds in the sterol ring structure). The major plant stanols are sitostanol and campestanol, and are less abundant in nature than sterols. A high intake of these substances impairs uptake of cholesterol from the gut, thus reducing total and LDL cholesterol. Source: Regenstrief LOINC, PMID: 12911045
