Description
Pancreatic Elastase testing is used to aid diagnosis of the exocrine pancreatic function. Pancreatic elastase is a digestive enzyme produced exclusively by the pancreas. The enzyme is responsible for breaking down protein in food. Pancreatic insufficiency occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough digestive enzymes to break down food in the intestine for absorption. Source: Regenstrief Institute
