Version 2.78

Description

Glycoprotein- or glycolipid-bound sialic acid is released by malignant cells and known as lipid-bound or lipid-associated sialic acid (LASA, LSA). Elevated LSA levels are seen in various malignancies, including breast and ovarian cancers, melanomas, leukemias, lymphomas, and Hodgkin's disease. Levels can also be elevated in benign, inflammatory, and chronic diseases. Decreased LSA levels are associated with a therapeutic response. PMID: 1626178 PMID: 7285326 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
