Bone age method
Active
Description
Bone age is typically measured in a child under age 18 using an x-ray of the hand and wrist bones. Various methods are used to compute bone age by comparing the maturity of the bones to idealized standards. These methods include the Greulich & Pyle (GP) Atlas, Tanner-Whitehouse 2nd edition (TW2) methods (20-bones and radius-ulna-short bones or "RUS"), Tanner-Whitehouse 3rd edition (TW3) and the Gilsanz & Ratibin (GR) Atlas.
