Version 2.77

Description

B little g super little b antigens are members of the HLA Class I antigens and represent HLA-B17 (B57 or B58). The B little g antigen group is designated as Bennett-Goodspeed antigens and are expressed on mature red blood cells (RBCs) and, like other HLA Class I antigens, are also expressed on platelets and the majority of nucleated cells. In some patients, the Bg antigens are not expressed on the RBCs even though they are expressed on other cells. Hemolytic transfusion reactions have rarely been attributed to Bg antibodies. In addition, red cell survival has not been affected by Bg antibodies when patients receive HLA incompatible components.(AABB Technical Manual, 18th edition, pp 362, 480, 490) Source: Regenstrief LOINC
