Escherichia coli paa gene
Active
Description
The Escherichia coli (EC) paa gene encodes the porcine attaching-effacing associated (PAA) protein. PAA helps initiate the early stages of post-weaning diarrhea (PWD). Porcine enteropathogenic E. coli (PEPEC) is a non-enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli that causes PWD. PEPEC attaches to intestinal epithelial cells in a characteristic pattern called attaching and effacing (A/E). To achieve a close attachment to the enterocytes, PEPEC produces an outer membrane protein called intimin that is critical to induce the distinctive A/E lesion. PAA is the protein that assists in the A/E and lesion production of EC. PMID: 24294249[http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/?query=paa+escherichia+coli&sort=score] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
