Muscle specific receptor tyrosine kinase
Active
Description
Muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) is a post-synaptic receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a key role in the formation of neuromuscular junctions during embryonic development. Antibodies to MuSK are one cause of myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune disease that affects neuromuscular synapses. MG is typically due to antibodies to post-synaptic acetylcholine receptors (AChR), but a subset of patients with MG do not have AChR antibodies and instead have been found to have other autoantibodies, including MuSK. Patients with MuSK MG usually have an earlier onset and are predominantly female, and treatment options are different from patients with typical MG. PMID: 26705120 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
