Description
Natural Killer (NK)-like T cells (abbreviated NKT, NK-T or NK-like T cells) express CD16+ and CD56+ as well as CD3+ and are a subgroup of T lymphocytes that have properties similar to NK cells. They produce hormone-like substances, including cytokines and chemokines, in the presence of viral infections and tumor cells. An increase in T-NK cells in the blood can occur in viral and malignant diseases, including HIV/AIDS and leukemias (e.g. T-large granular lymphocyte leukemia).
