Intraductal carcinoma of prostate
Active
Description
Intraductal carcinoma of the prostate (IDC-P) is usually associated with invasive prostate cancer with large tumor volume and worse prognosis. The diagnosis of IDC-P is based on morphology with features including large caliber glands, preserved basal cells, significant nuclear atypia, and sometimes comedonecrosis. It is important to distinguish IDC-P from high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN), which demonstrates less architectural and cytological atypia. Becasue of its strong association with invasive carcinoma and metastatic disease, the presence of IDC-P in a biopsy mandates immediate repeat biopsy or definitive therapy PMID: 27401634 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
