Rocio virus (ROCV) was isolated in 1975 during an outbreak of human encephalitis in Brazil. ROCV is an enveloped flavivirus containing a positive-sense single-stranded RNA PMID: 28939977. ROCV belongs to the Flaviviridae family, genus Flavivirus [NCBI Taxonomy: 64315]. Like other flaviviruses ROCV is morphologic, morphogenetic, and can cross the blood brain barrier. ROCV infection presents as fever, malaise, severe headache, lower extremity weakness, and severe neurologic symptoms including encephalitis PMID: 28939977. The vectors are mosquitoes and may include Aedes scapularis and Psorophora ferox [Researchgate:318323245]. Source: Regenstrief LOINC,
