Rivalta test
Active
Description
The Rivalta test is a manual test to distinguish transudates from exudates. The test is performed by adding a drop of the specimen being tested to an acetic acid solution. If a precipitate forms, then the test is positive, meaning that the fluid is an exudate. If the fluid dissipates, it is considered negative, meaning the fluid is a transudate.
