Canada Health Infoway Inc. / Inforoute Santé du Canada Inc.

How Canada Health Infoway uses LOINC:

Established in 2001, Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) is an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by the federal government. Infoway helps to improve the health of Canadians by working with partners to accelerate the development, adoption and effective use of digital health solutions across Canada.

Through our investments, we help deliver better quality and access to care and more efficient delivery of health services for patients and clinicians. This includes support, advice and guidance on standards and interoperability.

Across Canada, LOINC is used as the basis for the pan-Canadian LOINC Observation Code Database (pCLOCD). The database has been customized to meet the needs of Canadian stakeholders, and supports the use of SI units, UCUM and Canadian French and follows the LOINC copyright rules.

Working with Regenstrief, Infoway has translated the LOINC records to Canadian French, to enable the pCLOCD to be published and maintained in Canada’s two official languages. Regenstrief also publishes the LOINC records in Canadian French.

The pCLOCD has been implemented in nearly every province and territory in Canada, making LOINC the Canadian standard for interoperability in laboratory ordering and reporting.
