Cancelation of in-person events at 2020 LOINC Conference in Indianapolis

To our valued LOINC Community,

The situation with COVID-19 is of great importance to LOINC as leaders and proponents of improving health through standards and interoperability. In that capacity, as well as individually, we have a responsibility to consider the implications of hosting an in-person event during such a dynamic outbreak. Not only are there concerns about contracting COVID-19, but we must also think through the potential to further spread the virus, as we have people traveling to our facility from all over the US, and some from abroad.

In the best interests of all involved, we have decided to cancel the workshop portion of our 2020 LOINC Conference in Indianapolis and conduct our Committee Meetings virtually. Those who registered and paid for the workshops will be issued a full refund. We will contact each paid registrant individually when the refund has been processed.

Those attending the committee meetings are asked to hold the dates of March 24th and 26th for the Lab and Clinical Committee meetings, respectively. We are still working out the details of how we will conduct the meetings, but do know that we will abbreviate the time frames. We will send out more information once we finalize it.

We have been considering implementing online educational workshops and are going to use this circumstance as an opportunity to further evaluate this idea. Of course, we will keep you posted with updates on that as it develops.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused members of our community. We did not want to rush into a decision, but also wanted to act expeditiously so that everyone could have as much time as possible to adjust plans. We appreciate everyone's commitment to LOINC, and to improving world health. We hope to see you all at the next LOINC Conference in the fall!
